Highlights from Tasmanian State Sport Organisations workshop

Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) held a workshop for Tasmanian State Sport Organisations (SSO) in October 2024.

The workshop discussed the National Integrity Framework (NIF) and the five policies designed to protect sport and its participants. The policies set out the expectations of all sport members.

Key takeaways from the workshop for SSOs include:

  • discuss the NIF policies with your National Sport Organisation (NSO) and National Sport Organisation for People with Disability (NSOD)
  • check your sport’s Constitution
  • check your website and update your policies
  • put a link on your website to the Integrity policy hub on the NSO/NSOD website
  • communicate the NIF to your members and provide access to education and resources. We need to educate people on acceptable behaviour
  • update NIF policy details on all relevant membership terms and conditions, event entry forms, volunteer forms, declarations, and other membership/event registration.

Next steps:

  1. There is a range of resources to help guide all levels of sport on how to protect their members and provide a better experience for all participants/athletes.
  2. Establish a strong working relationship with your NSO. This will benefit your sport and all participants.
  3. Unified sports with aligned policy, strong governance and leadership are stronger.

A copy of the workshop PowerPoint (PDF 5.0 MB) is available and includes links, key resources and information on the NIF policies, including safeguarding children and young people policy.

Organisations that are interested in utilising components of these best practice integrity policy templates can email sportpartnerships@sportsintegrity.gov.au to discuss and seek further guidance.
