Women and Girls

Active Tasmania works to support, improve, and promote opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport and active recreation in Tasmania at all levels.

Active Tasmania is currently developing the women and girls strategy for sport and active recreation. This is an exciting opportunity to improve participation and access for women and girls in all aspects of sport and active recreation.  Active Tasmania strives to achieve equity for all women and girls and seeks to understand and address the current barriers being faced.

Consultation is now open until Sunday, 11 May 2025.

Role Model Stories

Active Tasmania is currently working on a project to identify and build a group of women and girls within the community to act and become role models within their sport or recreation activity to enhance exposure and build connections. These inspiring individuals who play, coach, officiate, volunteer, and organise within their local sport and active recreation group can share their story and encourage others to get involved.

Lifting the profile of women and girls in sport and active recreation is crucial in creating a sustainable and positive future in Tasmania. By building and maintaining positive relationships within sporting organisations, clubs and active recreation groups all women and girls in Tasmania will be able to not only participate but thrive.

These stories are currently in the development stage but will be available in the coming months.

Leadership

Women continue to be under-represented across all levels of sport particularly in leadership positions. Increasing the gender diversity in the sport and active recreation sector needs to be a priority, particularly for coaches, officials, administration, and board members.

Leadership and mentoring opportunities

  • The Australian Sport Commission offer opportunities to empower women in sport to help create a culture which values gender equity. The Women Leaders in Sport Program support women to achieve this. For grant assistance please visit Women Leaders in Sport Grants.
  • Women in Sport Mentoring Program is open to and designed for women working at an early - mid stage of their career across all areas of sport, sports administration and sports media.
